Microsoft Office Specialist iQcenter Technical Requirements

Environment Requirements

The site is fitted with at least one testing workstation which has a space of at least 5 feet x 3 feet.
If there is more than one allocated testing workstation, they are isolated from each other by a partition or by a space of at least 4 feet.
The testing workstation(s) are entirely devoted to tests when they are in progress even though they may have other functions at other times.
The testing area is comfortable, well lit and maintained at a comfortable temperature.
The testing area is quiet and free from distracting noises.
There will be a member of your staff appointed to monitor the testing area(s) while tests are in progress (this person will be an administrator/proctor).

System Requirements

The testing computers that will be used by examinees taking the Microsoft Office Specialist Office 2000 and XP exams must meet the minimum requirements shown in the table below:

Pentium III 500 MHz or higher configured as follows:
Name brand workstation preferred

Dedicated CPU for Microsoft Office Specialist

If testing for more than one version of Microsoft Office, you must have:

A separate bootable partition for each version of Microsoft Office. Each partition must have one installation of Microsoft Office.
This can be done using a partitioning program such as Partition Magic.

  OR

A separate removable hard drive for each version of Microsoft Office. Each hard drive must have one installation of Microsoft Office.

  OR
A separate CPU for each version of Microsoft Office. Each hard drive must have one installation of Microsoft Office.
Monitor and keyboard shared with switch box.
  OR
Two complete separate workstations

Multiple Languages:

If you wish to offer Microsoft Office Specialist exams in other languages, you must have a separate bootable partition or computer for each language (see notes below)

Operating System

Office 2000 exams require Windows 98 (SE), Windows 2000 Professional (SR3), or Windows XP Professional (SP1)

Office XP exams and Office 2003 exams require Windows 2000 Professional (SR3) or Windows XP Professional (SP1)

Installed Applications

Microsoft Office Professional or Premium required on all testing computers:

Microsoft Office 2000 Professional or Premium (SR3) for Office 2000 exams (*Microsoft Office 2000 SR2 is not supported*)

Microsoft Office XP Professional or Premium (SP1) for Office XP exams

Microsoft Office 2003 Professional for Office 2003 exams

Microsoft Project 2000 required for Project 2000 exams

Must be a Full Custom Installation.

Must be LOCALLY installed with Default Directory Structure  (cannot run from Network installation–ALL files must be local)
Must be installed from a CD and not from the Network
A test document must be printed from each application.
No ANTI-VIRUS software can be running on the Testing Workstation during an exam
IE5.5 or higher required on  Microsoft Office Specialist administration workstation – (AOL does not support our software)
IE 5.5 or higher installed as DEFAULT browser on Testing Workstation (Internet connection not required)
Macromedia Flash Player version 7 or higher

Network Access

Access to a Microsoft Office Specialist administration workstation via a peer-to-peer network connection or be configured as a Microsoft Office Specialist administration workstation

Microsoft Office Specialist administrative workstation must have access to Internet via DSL, Cable, T-1, network, or proxy server (Win Modems not supported)

Security / Firewalls

Security programs—such as WinShield, FoolProof , and Fortress—must be disabled or set such that users can create folders and save files on the local hard drive.

If your installation uses a proxy server, the proxy server information must be set up in the Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings, Proxy Settings dialog box.

Firewalls must permit full access to https://iqcenter.certiport.com via the Administrative Workstation Application, a Certiport program that connects directly to the URL (not through a browser) using ports 80 and 443. If you have a contract with an ISP or other provider who manages the firewall, you must arrange with the contractor to allow access in and out through the firewall.
